Dodge Hornet PowerShot Explained

In 2023, Dodge started to phase out its Dodge Durango SUV and began to replace it with the all-new Dodge Hornet, America’s first muscle SUV. It’s got three trims, good gas mileage, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) trim called the Dodge Hornet R/T. 

You can travel up to 30 miles on battery-only power until the electricity runs out and the gasoline engine activates. It’s also got smart engine stop/start technology that helps you save even more money on gas when you’re idle in Manteca or Turlock.

The Goal of the Dodge Hornet PowerShot

The designers and engineers of the all-new Dodge Hornet wanted to do something different than the standard SUV. They wanted to keep the aura of an American muscle car. If you have a need for speed, then the Dodge Hornet PowerShot is for you when looking at an SUV.

Here’s how it works. We suggest you do this when the battery is fully charged, and you’re at a dead stop. We also highly recommend doing this at a race track so you don’t disrupt traffic or possibly get into an accident.

At a dead stop, hit the accelerator to the floor. This tells the electric motor to engage 25 more horsepower for 15 seconds. You’ll shave 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 time, normally at 7.1 seconds, to get it down to 5.6 seconds. You’ll need to wait another 15 seconds before engaging this feature again. It works best when the battery is in a higher state of charge, and the ambient temperature is around 72 degrees. The Dodge Hornet PowerShot will work in other situations, but it’s not as robust.

Why the Dodge Hornet PowerShot Works

This feature works due to the near-instant torque supplied by an electric motor. When you hit the pedal to the metal, the electric motor starts turning the rear wheels quickly to move you forward very quickly.
